Homeschooling in Iowa: the paperwork, exactly

What Iowa law requires when you teach your child at home — the filings, the deadlines, the records — and what it does not require, in writing.

Iowa — Recurring filing calendar

Notice: Under Competent Private Instruction, file a report of instruction with the district by September 1 each year; Independent Private Instruction needs no filing.

Ongoing duties: Annual evaluation under CPI; results reported to the district and the Department of Education by August 1. No duties under IPI.

Withdrawal from public school: no codified withdrawal procedure — a dated written notice to the school is the practice, and it creates your paper record.
