Homeschooling in Louisiana: the paperwork, exactly

What Louisiana law requires when you teach your child at home — the filings, the deadlines, the records — and what it does not require, in writing.

Louisiana — Recurring filing calendar

Notice: Apply for a BESE-approved home study within 15 days of starting; renew by October 1 or within 12 months of initial approval.

Ongoing duties: 180-day session; renewal requires a packet of work samples and outlines, qualifying test scores, or a third-party statement.

Withdrawal from public school: no codified withdrawal procedure — a dated written notice to the school is the practice, and it creates your paper record.
