Homeschooling in North Dakota: the paperwork, exactly

What North Dakota law requires when you teach your child at home — the filings, the deadlines, the records — and what it does not require, in writing.

North Dakota — Recurring filing calendar

Notice: File a statement of intent with the district superintendent before starting (wait 5 days) and renew it annually.

Ongoing duties: Teach required subjects at least 4 hours/day, 175 days/year; keep annual academic records; standardized testing in grades 4, 6, 8, 10 unless the parent qualifies to opt out.

Withdrawal from public school: no codified withdrawal procedure — a dated written notice to the school is the practice, and it creates your paper record.
